I min kommune har vi fokus på cyklister

Vi ser det ofte – en hel flok skolebørn, der kører to og to ved siden af hinanden, samtidig med at de griner og pjatter. Det gør mig glad at se. Nogle gange kommer de lidt i slinger, så de kører ud på vejen. Andre gange kommer de susende af sted med meget høj fart og overhaler bilisterne på steder, hvor hastighedsbegrænsningerne er 30 km/t. Det gør mig bekymret.

I København, hvor jeg de seneste år har opholdt mig meget, er der utrolig mange cyklister. Jeg har dog erfaret, at cyklisterne ikke altid er et helt venligt folkefærd. Selvfølgelig skal bilisterne holde tilbage for cyklisterne, der jo er en svagere trafikant. Vi ved jo alle, at hvis en cyklist bliver kørt ned, er det oftest bilisten, der får skylden. Og det er jo oftest også helt korrekt. Bilisterne har endnu meget at lære, når det gælder om at overholde hastighedsbegrænsningerne og kigge i spejlene. Men alligevel vil jeg gerne slå et slag for, at også cyklisterne prøver at forudse de farer, der kan opstå, og tage højde for dem. Det kan for eksempel være ved lyskryds, hvor højresvingende bilister skal krydse cykelstien.

I Vesthimmerlands Kommune vil vi gerne gøre det endnu mere sikkert at færdes – særligt for cyklisterne. Derfor er der i kommunens nye trafiksikkerhedsplan særlig fokus på nærmiljøet omkring skolerne. Og skoleeleverne er i særdeleshed også i fokus, når et kommunalt projekt gør det muligt, at kommunen efter sommerferien i år uddeler cykelhjelme til alle børn i 1. – 7. klasse – i alt ca. 3300 cykelhjelme.

Jeg håber, at forældrene vil bakke op om projektet. Alt for mange forældre transporterer i dag deres børn til både skole og fritidsaktiviteter. Det er en uheldig udvikling – både for børnenes erfaring i trafikken og for sundheden. Der skal derfor lyde en opfordring til, at forældrene giver børnene den træning, der skal til for at færdes sikkert i trafikken. Og at børnene – og alle andre cyklister – husker på, at de også har et ansvar. På den måde kan vi alle vise og tage hensyn til hinanden – det er Fair Play i trafikken.
