Kørekortet er for Ernst nærmest et livsvilkår. Og når man som ham i sine unge dage også har levet af at være chauffør i den københavnske trafik, ja, så gør det naturligvis ondt, når lægen vurderer én til ikke længere at kunne køre bil forsvarligt. Ernst overså nemlig en cyklist – i testen.
Jeg må tilstå, at jeg straks – udover at være medfølende – mest støttede lægen. Ernst har nemlig fået Parkinsons syge, der giver ham rystelser. Og så er han ikke længere så hurtig i bevægelserne. Jeg kunne lige se scenariet for mig: En trafikulykke, hvor ikke blot Ernst, men også min mor og andre trafikanter omkommer. Det ville selvfølgelig ikke være til at bære!
Og det sker jo! Gamle bilister overser ofte f.eks. den ubetingede vigepligt med store ulykker til følge. De kører langsomt og sænker trafikken. De er farlige i trafikken. Sådan er vi mange, der tænker – eller tænkte. For jeg er blevet klogere!

Jeg synes nu stadig det er en god idé at ældre bilister skal have fornyet deres kørekort. Men skal det ske rutinemæssigt fra de 70 år? Alder er jo ofte bare et tal. Måske burde vi alle få kørekortet fornyet med f.eks. 10 års mellemrum? Bare for en sikkerheds skyld?
